Problem with the control rods in the - control surfaces.

control surfaces. Every time I CA the rods into the rudders and dive planes, they stay for a while and as soon as I hook up the control linkages the rods break from from the glue and then its back to square one.

Is there a trick to getting them to stay glued in the control surfaces.

Could provide a few more details? It's not clear (to me) what or how you are CA'ing the control rods into the control surfaces....or why!

Are you perhaps referring to the 'pivot' rods that are embedded in them? (and not the servo control rods?)

If that is the case, it almost sounds like you are getting too much force applied to them. The CA will hold under normal use, but it can be 'popped' loose.

Some a boat as large as the 1/72nd Alfa, my preference is to use a piece of square rod which is embedded in the control surface. The size of the square piece is such that it rides inside a round bushing installed in the hull.

Clean the control rod surface

Clean the control rod surface with some 400 wet-or-dry sandpaper (used dry) to remove all glue residue, tarnish, corrosion, etc. DO NOT touch the cleaned surface with your bare hands - the natural oils in your skin can cause the glue not to stick. Before applying the glue, wipe the sanded portion of the rod with some rubbing alcohol, this will also help remove any impurities.

I had the exact same

I had the exact same problem with my OTW 1/32 Scale U-boat (U-96)... I had 3 out of 4 shafts break loose from the control surfacses even before the hull was completed (Port and Starboard front hydroplane and 1 of the dual rudders). Since I was an "Old Timer" who works for the National Cash Register Company for many years, I was very familiar with how to perminately bond a device to a metal shaft. The fix is to pin the surface to the shaft.

What I did was drilled two small holes through each control surface and the metal control shaft. Now you can CA the shaft to the control surface and drive a small nail into the two drilled holes. A little CA around each end of the nail near the surface. Then use a Dremel grinding wheel to make the nail flush with the control surface.

This is my perminate solution that works really well...
