Engel Nautilus build with OTW cylinder

She's really sailing along...oh...that's kinda of funny? But really ladies and germs she is. Got the hull to open and close fat and easy. Just remove the ram and lift. Presto!
So she could hit the water tomorrow but now the real fun begins. Engle left so many rivets a detail off this boat it blows my mind. No limber holes, no deck vents with grills, no parts or rivets at all on the bottom side of the boat. I have my work cut out for me. They did provide some nice rivet details for the tail. And a bunch of rivets in a bag but they are hardly enough. I have a plan...more on Monday.

Engel probably used up all of their available rivets on their Type VIIC hull model and didn't have any left for poor Capt. Nemo. LOL!

I wise guy huh? wake up and go to sleep! Ya...you are most likely correct. But as much as I love this boat I'll take a good Type 7 any day. Thankfully I have both!

Steve you are really talented with rubber mask making. I wonder why you could not fill those gaps on the nautilus with a rtv rubber gasket?

SO good to see you back on here building a boat (though I've always followed your videos and always will so have known about this one for a while). Now: what's the chance of converting this thread to an article for the SCR once you're all done? We still—and always—need material!

Thanks guys. Time is the problem with running my studio, 5 interns and teaching and starting a TV show series. But I could try. Here's the latest. Silicone rubber would not look like this.

Finally the hull is seamless to the rakes. I changed the way the hull opens and closes from what the kit company would have you do. Also how is putting back rivets I removed and will be adding the ones Engel never included on the lower hull.

More done on the boat. In addition to the boat having no details or rivets on the lower hull it does not have the limber holes or deck vents present on the original model. Sooooo...I put them in by doing a bunch of cutting, grinding, and cutting today. Eventually the deck vents holes will be covered by photo etched brass I'm having made by my buddy Eliot Brown.

Hmm... Eliot MAY be able to use the same custom set of deck grates he created for me (for my in-progress CR 66" Mk. 1) and just size down the files and output to fit the Engle, eh, Steve? That would be relatively painless, if possible.
