It always seems I am a little slow when working with products such as Squadron White Putty. Is there anything I can add to the putty to keep it a little softer a little longer?

I use 3M Acryl red. My tube is now almost ten years old, and still fresh as the day I bought it.
Much better than the Squadron putty crap.
products keep better if you can store them somewhere reasonably cool. -
I also would stop using
I also would stop using the squadron putty.
I had issues with it taking ages to harden/cure as well as it shrinking an incredible amount.
I use evercoat, and sometimes fall back to the tried and true bondo.Comment

BTW, you shouldn't use spot
BTW, you shouldn't use spot putty for anything other than small scratches and minor blending. Heavy blending work is best dealt with using two part polyester fillers, like the Evercoat brand mentioned (UPOL is good for UK based modellers).
The reasons for this are that two part fillers dry much faster when used for filling big areas, and also are far more elastic.
I use the 3M Acryl red putty for final finishing and very fine work only.Comment
