    Marc-
    for the answer to the

    Marc-
for the answer to the IPMS question, I would ask Mr Merriman if you or FX would be allowed. I honestly don't know the answer to that.
I just know that I've seen dioramas done with some very large U-Boat pieces that have been entered in such contests. There was one entry that was a very large (forgot the scale) U-Boat rising out of the water (may have been over 6 feet long???) that I saw a photo of....perhaps someone that has gone to the IPMS nationals could give more detail??

I just think a diorama of the 688/Mystic would be a really cool subject. Something that is different enough.

I also agree with Jeff. I think this could be released as a kit, before the specifics of the thrusters (or bayonet mounts for hull openings) could be figured out. I think the Mystic would be a cool model with a WTC 3.5 and just the prop. That prop reminds me of the Seehund variants that are out there. (also where I remembered seeing one of the German guys with the bayonet type mounts for hull access.)
    cheers!
    Sam

      HI Sam,

      Yes I can ask

      HI Sam,

Yes I can ask Dave about IPMS contests and if an FX Models type company is eligible to compete. I would be comfortable entering such contests only if there are COMMERCIAL contests where the other participants are companies. I would just love to reproduce it as in the photo attached here... with allllll the detail. Oh and on the RC front, Dave is already offering some assists on the Mystic project anyway which is very nice of him. He wants to see it RC as much as I. To Jeff LaRue's point, the kit WILL be offered before thrusters are available, yes, and will only support the usage of the stern shrouded prop and a WTC3 as opposed to 3.5.. There is no need for the extra half inch in fact since the model will not require more than a few ounces to submerge.
The way Mystic is designed, the [real] sail comes off and translating to the model, this can be used as a filler access for the ballast tank since the tank will be right under that opening. Makes it easy. As far as holding the ends on, that is a simple matter. Mystic has plenty of detail to hide small screws under. I will address what we do about access for linkages at some point. All options are open, from splitting the entire hull top to bottom to keeping the center intact, Bow section intact, and splitting the stern for linkage access. Lots of options and lots of fun to come..

Most of the fun will be in seeing how people choose to animate the Mystic. I for one and am looking forward to it. This is a perfect model for me to set out to build my deepwater test tank with viewports... I was thinking of an 8 foot diameter, 8 foot deep tank with viewports at the 4 foot and 6 foot level. It would essentially be a large fiberglass tub I guess! But its what I need for controlled testing at depth year round. I was thinking of making this for indoor use in the shop here to save on constantly imposing on the local YMCA or School-With-Pool for usage time.

I tell you its too bad this is a submarine ONLY forum because we are doing a similarly detailed LPD-17 for another client that is going to be a perfect target!

          Chuck,

I would rather be out-standing on a submarine!

          Thanks...

              Chuck,

              We will be offering Mystic

              Chuck,

We will be offering Mystic for RC. We just have a few design considerations to work out once our client has delivery of the display model we were commissioned to create for this project. I had given the client a very good price for this level of detail in return for the non-concern that we will use it for other projects later. It will be offered 3 different ways]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]
