    Boy... in this view it

Boy... in this view it really looks like the upper and lower rudders are not symetrical. The bottom one seems to go all the way down - no "L" shape coming out from the stabilizer to support it. If there are photos that show differently it would be fun to see them.

Also - is that a hint of a white "boot top" paint job around the waterline or just a very even scum line?

      Tim,
      I think your right about

      Tim,
I think your right about the white line. Also, do you see how far down the draft marks go down the hull?

      Matt,
As much as I would love to take the credit for the creeper info, I have to tell you, that was all David's research and handy work. I did the hull and he did the control surfaces and screw. People can say whatever they want about him, but!, he's got the gift and I'm glad to be able to call him a friend. As for the plan set, you bet! I would love to have a set. Thanks

            You have done well 'Cardinal'!

You have done well 'Cardinal'! LOL

I concur with earlier comments, it is a stern light on the trailing edge of the upper rudder post.

Merriman's theorys about the propeller appear correct too. The prop (looking forward from the stern) turns counter-clock wise. If I am correct, didn't Dave originally have the prop turn this way on the Alfa effects model in 'Red October' as a private 'in joke'? Seems it might have turned this way all along......or did Dave know more than he admitted and the 'in-joke' was to cover his talented (now skinny) butt! LOL. Kuddos to Dave too!

Thank you Wayne for these remarkable images. This is what we live for in this crazy hobby. They cheer me up greatly in light of other postings recently. This Alfa looks like the Project 705 'K' version. Is this true?

Respect and protect your sources Wayne. You have with some letter writing, time and effort have shown us what research is all about. Some modeler's think copying an inaccurate 'squadron' booklet about submarines is research and accuracy. You have learned to go to the source. Bravo Wayne and your Russian translator.

Amazing to think viewing these dry dock images that the whole aft engineering sections are completely automated! Wow.

            Salute!

            Steve Reichmuth

Here are some shots that Wayne sent me of the Russian Beluga. If you remember, Greg Sharpe did an article in the SCR awhile back about building an RC version of one of these puppies.

                      When did the builders started

When did the builders started adding creeper motors to the Alfa? I'll be amazed if they are replaced by rocket boosters in the futures!

By the way Wayne, very nice pictures!

How fast could the Alfas go on just the creepers? Were they just used to sneak up on American subs, since their main screw would cavitate like a tanker.

                            On creepers they would move

On creepers they would move at 2-4 knots. It was for quiet manuvering . Far to slow to sneak up on a submarine. I do know they were used to slip away from contact.
The tactic was to go deep, (deeper than we could go at that time) and wriggle out from under contact.
It was probably handy for dockside manuvering also. But on that I part, I am guessing. The other, I am sure.
