Nice Job, Wayne! Great detective work. My hat is off to you!!!

It is nice to see that the drawings in the Russian Text, although somewhat rough, match the photos well. I wish there was more on the reactor scoops, though.

Matt - do you have any idea what the purpose is of the ">" shaped notch in the vertical stabilizer? I have seen that on other Sov subs.

                do you mean the light

do you mean the light is within the forward (to the front of the sub) point of the triangular slot and is a white/clear light?

for those of us that do not understand please clarify.

I like the vortex dissipator. Odd design. Any closeups of the blades themselves, or am I getting greedy....

                      Wayne,

                      When we get together over

                      Wayne,

When we get together over dinner I will hand you over the other pics we discussed. I think it will prove to you the lower rudder is similar to the top in that it is not full flying. Also, some vortex attenuator shots and bow shots from below that shows, what I believe, to be the end of the bowplane protruding from the hull.

I debated if I was going to show these. But the debate was short. It,in one stroke, answered many questions we have all asked.

I paid for and own these pictures. They are intended to be seen here.and enjoy! But, I reserve my right to ownership.

Outstanding pictures! They answer a ton of questions and give detail that could never be seen before. Nobody should ever have trapped air under the deck problems again! Hey Matt, how about them creeper motors?
I hope Greg Sharpe at Deep Sea Designs takes your photos and updates his excellent drawings. I would be his first order!

                            Britt,

Yes, I ate crow on the creepers! I could not understand why such an elegant design would be spoiled by a parasitic form such as the creeper motors. I had to have proof of its existence. With the information out of Russia recovered earlier this year, and now Wayne's information it certainly satisfies my doubts. Sorry! It is my Type "A" personality. I have tons of shots of the Alfa collected over many years, but none as descriptive as what Wayne dug up. That was truly a treasure of information. I have a 1/72nd plan almost complete for the Alfa reflecting the latest finds. It looks as if I need to modify the reactor scoops a bit. When I get done with this Airforce project I will be glad to send you a copy if you like.

My hat is off to you and Dave Merriman. You guys got it extremely close. BZ.

Am i knitpicking here or is the fillet shown in the photo of the back of the tower of the real Alfa not present in Matt Thor's Alfa. (An excelent job btw.)
The photo is pretty low res so I can not see it all that clearly.

I wish there were more photo's like these on the board.
