Colombian Navy fights drugs
Colombia's small submarine service is playing a critical role in the US-led war on drugs, senior officers told the SubCon 2003 conference in Kiel, Germany, which was organized by the German Submarine Consortium in September 2003. Armed with 29 years of experience, two German-built Type 209 diesel- electric boats (ARC Pijao and Tayrona) and two Italian-built midget submarines (ARC Intrepido and Indomable), Colombian submariners are responsible for a "large percentage" of drugs seized by the Colombian Navy, the officers claimed.

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) is looking at measures to safeguard and sustain critical elements of the UK's submarine industrial base in advance of firm commitments to place orders for further Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs).
