Yes, there are two in service, San Juan and Santa Cruz. They were built for the Argentine Navy and are among the fastests diesel electric subs in the world. There were plans to add a nuclear reactor to one of them but the idea was cancelled. You sure know your subs Gantu!

After looking at my pictures of the Yankee big nose I would say that you are correct. Thanks for your help with that one. Its sail is different from the other Yankees.

Yep, you can see on the right of the picture that streamlined cover for piping that 688s use faired well into the hull.

Flight III 688i Walter, Flight II was the VLS afterthought boats and the topside pattern for the VLS tubes were different on most of them. That and the grating on the stbd side by the towed array fairing also gives it away, that isn't on flight II boats.

This is the new Borei class Russian ballistic missile submarine. Look at the bow. Recognize it? A submarine on the slipways was cancelled and its bow was used for this Borei. What submarine was it?
