    Engineroom Telegraph

The question came up last night in another group as to if submarines did or do now use engine room telegraphs. I am sure the engine room of the diesel/electric subs were noisy places, were they used then, and are they used now in nukes?

    Thanks,

    Ron

    Ron,
Yes, until recently, I know Engine Order Telegraphs (EOT) have been standard equipment on our boats. I'm not sure what Seawolf and the Virginias use, as they have completely changed the way our boats are driven. It wouldn't surprise me to see that they use an updated version. The EOT was operated by the Helm, answered by the Throttleman in Maneuvering, just as in any other USN EOT application.

Thanks, Bill. I'll pass this along to the other group.
