    Thanks

    Richard,

You could also take a look at the Small World Models 1/96th scale Trenchant/Trafalgar kit. It's the closest thing that the r/c sub hobby has to an ARF. Drop in the r/c gear and battery, file a few holes in the bottom (ballast vents), paint and go!

I also have one of the OTW 1/72nd scale Trafalgar hulls. Very nicely done hull kit.

Thanks, I'll look now (half the fun is in the research!) ... but what the hell is an ARF (another one for the Glossary I feel).

    Many thanks,

    Richard

      Almost Ready to Float, meaning

Almost Ready to Float, meaning a left handed chimp could assemble it in a couple of nights after work. I know - because I'm left handed and my Ex thinks of me as slightly under the simion category!

.. I see. Thanks; is this any different from RTR (Ready-to-Run)?

          Thanks, Tim.....I should have explained

Thanks, Tim.....I should have explained the term!

The difference between ARF and RTR is that the RTR would just need the batteries charged and then go. Something like the toy r/c Seawolf would be RTR: http://www.lightinthebox.com/Motorwo...03-_p2564.html

            change of heart

Well, thanks everyone for your help.

I've really had a big-think about all this and think that for my first boat I'll buy a Sheerline Trafalgar. I'm, also tempted by the Revel Gato conversion and have emailed the US site dealing with the specific WTC and DVD (Creswell/Merriman I believe).

I just can't bring myself to building a German ww1/2 sub - it would be like building a model of Auschwitz.

I do feel guilty sometimes having a "non-NATO" boat in my fleet.

I think I have the perfect answer for you. You really want to build a German Uboat, yet --- the war, Auschwitz etc etc.

So, why not build a German Uboat that flew the British flag!!!!

                  see

The U Boat VIIC was captured by the British and renamed HMS Graph!

Just build it, pop a White Ensign on the back and you've got the best of both!

                      Richard, it looks like Mike

Richard, it looks like Mike (Kazzar) has the anwer for you if you want to build a WWII boat with a U-Boat flavor. I couldn't see what modler lever was required for construction, but maybe I did not look far enough. Rom what I gather, that is really not an issue with you as it is with me.

Yes, it is an excellent answer and one I'm looking into- principally as to the nature and cost (to the UK) of the WTC.

I'm completely foxed by the above reference to "gives the middle finger as well". What in the hell does that mean? (I understand it's a rude gesture - but to whom or what?)

                        Thanks,
                        Richard

Lots of different ideals from lots of different people..!

At the end of the day..choose a Boat you like and take it from there!
                            Thats where the adventure starts.

                            You'll learn along the way...

I'm still CRUNCHING my way through my U-47 (after a long time of understanding what i really have let myself into..But its like learning to walk...take those first steps..make a couple of mistakes..but you'll

From a single 20mm cannon on through to multiple FLAK cannons..
alas to no effective outcome in the U-Boat/Battle of the Atlantic conflict.

                            And remember to have fun!
