    Why we build them big!

Someone once ask me why do I like 1/48 scale as my favorite scale to build subs in and I told them because they look better in the water. I didn't mention anything about age or eyesight but there's probally some of that too. Then, I found these pictures from the San Francisco Regatta back in 2001 and thought I'd share.

    Awesome bow wake!

    Bigger really is better!

    Britt,

Couldn't agree with you more. What a GREAT looking boat you've got there. Looks simply fantastic in AND out of the water.

Not bad at all. The inside of the hull is very roomy and even with the 12 volt 5 amp battery and with D&E 3.5 wtc, it just doesn't weight all that much. You do have to remove it from the water very slowly.

It's even more fun when you spot a target! Because of your size, they do a really, really good job of staying out of your way.

Mylo, you will soon know the feeling, (rush!) of being the Skipper of a large scale sub. Keep up the great work your doing!

I can't wait to see it in the water. Are you going to build a new garage to store and service it in? I think I would just leave it on the trailer.

                        I'm going to be building

I'm going to be building a new frame the same as the one I used to hold the rear cone and then join them together and box it in to provide some level of protetion from the elements etc.

Currently redecorating my room and creating an electronics bench ready to start to finalise the electronics/software/computer section.

                        Michael

EDIT: Hope to have it in the water as a 'standard sub' by the end of the year - with the 'special features' being added on within the next two years thereafter.

I remember that day as well. You were with your wife and wished like mad that you had brought a sub with you. It was great finially getting to meet you. That was always the great part about going to these events, meeting the people from the forums and putting a face and voice to the name. All told, I made three San Francisco Regattas and they were always a blast. Hopefully, I'll get to make one of the Sub Regattas back east someday.
Yes, the D&E 3.5 wtc looks very small in there but the performance of that unit was perfect. With that battery and with the throttle held below 50%, I had a 4-5 hour run time! I also had the bow set up with a smaller wtc that carried the wireless FM transmitter with the sound transducer mounted to the hull. These subs, as well as surface ships, make a butt load of noise underwater! It was fun to park the sub on the bottom and just listen to all that traffic.
