You might need to go with a different battery. Check out the Powersonic website - they list all the sizes of their batteries.

The 5.5 amp unit is a bit shorter than the 7 amp if you lay it on it's size. It might be just small enough.

Thanks Mr. Smalley. I was hoping to use a 7ah because of the longer run time, but I guess if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit! If I were to use a 5.5 ah unit, any idea how much run time I'd get (with a two 2]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_question.gif[/img]

Depending on the motors you use and how aggressively you drive the boat, there should be plenty of juice in a 5.5 ah gel cell. And you can always buy a spare battery...

                        Hi Ray -
I found the basic plans for my (formerly) $100 ROV in a book called "Build your own Underwater Robot" It is available from RP electronics for about $16 (US). Go to RP Electronics and search on the book's title or just enter part number 0-9681610-0-6

I added some PVC electrical conduit bends on the bilge pump outputs (see bottom photo) with nozzles on the ends to vector the thrust and add a little more "oomph" - like putting your thumb on a garden hose. There is a bilge pump in each corner plus one each for up and down.

The original camera was a black and white unit from SuperCircuits (do a Google search) for less than $30. I have since swapped it out for a high resolution color model. The camera housing was just a chunk of PVC pipe with a rubber cleanout stopper in one end and and a lexan window in the other. I got a 3 wire waterproof connector for the camera from Daniel Woodhead, Inc. but you could make a through-hull connector too. Monitor was originally a 12V B&W cheapie from Target that had a video in connector. That has been swapped out for a 12V color VCR from Wal-Mart so I can record my u/w adventures.

I got 60 feet of 8 conductor cable from Radio Shack for the motor controls (one hot for each of 6 pumps plus doubling up the ground) and double shielded coax for the camera signal and power from "The Shack" as well. I just have a project box with six momentary pushbutton switches to control the thrusters. The cable does tend to sink so I had to add little styrofoam fishing floats/bobbers every foot or so to keep it from dragging the ROV down.

I could have spent a ton more money and lots more time on this thing, but it was made just as a toy to play with and to take video of my subs underwater. I originally wanted to see if I could do it for $100 and I came darn close - until I added the color camera and 12V VCR/monitor!

If you are thinking about using it for SAR professionally - I would buy one of the u/w cams you can buy at just about any good fishing supply place like Cabela's for about $260 and mount it on the ROV with some lights. Much less screwing around - no leaks - even at 75 feet.
Go to .RC-Submarines.com and click on "My Projects" for more info.

                          Hi guys

Here is a shot of my Alfa, it is built from a 1st generation hull. I added creepers and new rudders.....and a strange paint.
                          Please do not laugh !

I am still working on it (weathering, white markings...etc) . Will test it this coming sunday, will go back with some videos.

My firsthand information tells me that green on the lower is correct. It different times, the russians used different colors on the lower.Red, green, and black. it also had a mix in the paint that was poisonous to the barnacles ,to slow growth.
