UPDATE (of sorts): As of last year, a nascent group from Louisville, Kentucky was trying to establish a naval museum there. They planned to acquire and move Ling as the centerpiece of their new museum. This would be an extensive move from NJ to the Ohio River. I went to their website, but no more updates after a year ago. They are possibly stalled by Covid-19, as are many projects, but it is unclear if they have had any progress in raising funds to accomplish the renovation and move. The condition of the hull underwater is unknown, and the entire fix and relocation project is estimated to run several million dollars.

Definitely we will need to research more before (if we do) donate. The Cobia museum has always donated to our regattas, so that would be another consideration.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
