    Replacement??

Any sort of replacement for the motors in my "Big Dave" cylinders Drive unit for my VIIc . Over the years the motors have rusted, mounts are breaking...etc etc.
    Any Ideas??
    OD-5.2cm-ID-5.4 (approx)
    Thanks

I really need something , as my VIIC is dead in the water without this. I would like to keep Daves Cylinder, as he has passed, but if I cant get parts, I guess I will have a 100/ replacement???

Please PM me, I may have some motors for you.
    Peace,
    Tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Thank you very much for your response.
The end-cap, as well as the shafts and Tie Rods to Mr. Merriman, but Im wondering if its worth it,
the shafts for the motors are not smooth operating at all, and the push rods are not terribly smooth either.
Dave obviously didnt make this, he must have sold it as a kit, as the builder really botched it badly, and didnt treat it with the respect it deserved.

I purchased this for practically nothing, knowing that it had suffered a devastating leak at one time, but I thought I could save it somehow, and once I found out Big Dave had passed, I felt duty-bound to keep his cylinder intact, in his memory, as he was so nice to me.

      Whatcha think???

Disassemble the parts from the cylinder side of the end cap.
        Leave the seal fitting.

Cleanup the brass tubing that go through the seals. (600 wet/dry sand paper)
They look like they have oxidized and just need to be cleaned.

Reach in to the seal fittings and remove the o-rings.
Replace o-rings with new and grease when installing. (most hardware stores will have these small o-rings in packages of 2 or 4 each)

With the motors of the end cap, you can see what size they are and find replacements.
Clean the shaft seals or replace.

Replace end cap outside o-ring. (check at hardware store)

Once you reassemble with new seals and cleaned shafts, you should have all but a new completed end cap.

          Hey...Thanks

Thank you so much for your assistance Ralph, I do appreciate it.
The problem that I am finding, is that the motors dont seem to be stock, ANYWHERE!
I have spent many hours pouring over dc motor suppliers on the Internet, as well as all the worlds EBay sites.
I hope someone will spot these somewhere and let me know.
(I betcha down in Big Daves workshop there are hundreds of these things...lol)
          Thank you,
          Kim

                    BigKim,
Not sure what is happening. The last message I sent you was that I would pull out what I have this weekend to see if I could help.
I do have a Big Dave WTC, but I do not want to sell it. The point for posting I had one was to use it to help you source out parts.
                    Looking at mine,

I did not see any specific part numbers that would help. I believe the motors used are simply 180 size motors.
With that being said I thought I had 180 size motors. I will continue to dig through boxes from prior moves and see where they might be.
                    Peace,
                    Tom

I bought one of Big Dave Welch's Type VII WTC kits many years ago. The basic instruction sheet recommends some GWS-GW-LPS-RXC-CS motor and gearbox units. Depending on when he made the parts for the WTC, the recommended motors could have changed.

pardon me if I replicate this post, as it has not shown up yet
have found the GWS motors, but there are TONS of em
Any idea which one to use, or do I just pick one that was the same size, and voltage.
                        Thanks in advance

The one I referenced is a gear drive brushed motor system: GWS LPS - RXC Power System. The CS unit has a 6.2:1 gear ratio.

Thank you so much, I believe this is the missing info I need. You may have saved me from having to spend over $500.00 on a new WTC.

Looks like I got the last 2 units left from a supplier that says that GWS is no longer operating. They moved to California, and after that they no longer took orders. If anyone has one, or 2 of these left hanging around, or knows a hobby store , or a supplier with a couple, please let me know, as Id like a spare or 2.
                              Thanks in advance
