Well, I've rigged ship for Harry. Time to take her down. Could be something, could be nothing here in Houston. We shall see.

Guys, we appreciate the prayers. So far the Lord has spared Houston from any significant issues. It's been squally but nothing more. Down Corpus Christi way is another matter. Lots of damage. They keep warning us here that we could get a massive dump of rain over the next two days but hopefully it won't play out. We'll see. Thanks again, amigos!Warm regards,

So Harry got real in Houston last night. Steady rain all night long that still hasn't stopped. Half our year's precipitation fell overnight. Widespread flooding is reported in all the usual places. Houston ISD has already decided to stay closed for another week. Fortunately, our neighborhood, and my folks' house, are above water. But it's still raining so keep praying. The Texas gulf coast certainly needs it.Warm regards,

Jeff,
We moved this past spring and are now have a Houston address (as opposed to Cypress) but are still just outside the city limits. It is in northwest Houston.
The rain took a bit of a break this afternoon which is good. We're still looking at possibly another 20" or so but it should be spread out over the next several days.Warm regards,

Yeah, we're blowing away state and local records. It's not what you think when you hear "storm flooding" either. No lightning, high winds, thunder, etc. Just a constant moderate to heavy rain that goes on for hours and hours. I told my wife I keep thinking one of our kids is upstairs taking a shower for way too long. I want to holler upstairs, "Get out!" But it's just the two of us and the tropical storm. Thankfully it has eased off a bit. Hopefully enough to spare some people from further flooding.Warm regards,

Glad to hear you are safe.

20" of rain. I can only go by photos I see.
20" of rain would be 10 years or more here.
2" causes flash flooding and roads being wash away at dry wash crossings.
Of course when it rains here, it is usually over 2 or 3 day period OR all at once per year.

Thanks, Ralph. A weather guy described Houston today as "a swamp that they dumped a bunch of concrete on and called a city". It is extremely flat. 2" of rain causes flooding. But I do love it so. :^)
The giant retention reservoirs on the west side are full and they are having to release them into the bayous in order to relieve stress on the dams. The bayous cross the city and empty into the ship channel. Of course they're already full. More fun and games.
We had a break in the rain for over an hour this afternoon but it has since started again. Please note Houston is a huge, sprawling city and my comments refer to my specific location in the northwest.Warm regards,
