Sub Drive Motor Recommendations Wanted

Hello

I would like to ask the membership for their advice on what main sub drive motors to use for my WTC builds. I know you can buy already made WTC BUT I can`t afford them, so I SLOWLY make each one. I like using Mabuchi DC brushed motors, only experience I have is with them.

I have the following projects in need of WTC with motors:

Revel Type VII 1/72

Revel Type IX 1/72

Italeri Seehund 1/35

Bronco Type XXIII 1/35

Special Navy Type XXIII

X Craft 1/12

I would like to go direct drive drive OR geared. I need a link to a source and it`s specs. I like to go through ebay, if possible.

Please let me know if you can.

geared onto 2 shafts. (there is not enough room for 2 of them)

For the Seehund and 72er XXIII i suggest mabuchi FC-130 oder FC-280 size. (Dont´t have direct links on hand)

Thanks for the help. I have to ask you,how do I make gearing for the Type VII and IX, I do not know how to make gearing or where to get parts for it.

Hi,

Norbert Brüggen has some pictures of his Type VII conversion kit showing the gears: http://modelluboot.de/KITS/VII/VIIc_E.html
His gearbox runs in the water, so it only needs 1 shaft seal. He offers a small turned adapter part for the motorshaft (2.3mm) to 3mm for the seal an a step to 4mm for the gear.

The old Graupner Shark also has a simmilar Gearbox design, whitch runs in the dry compartment, so it needs 2 shaft seals:


As i live in germany, I don`t have any US or canadian suppliers for the gears on hand.
In that scale I suggest Module 0.5 gears (metric) made of brass (better quality) or POM (way cheaper)
The axle distance is easy to calculate: number of teeth for both gears divided by 2 multiplied by Module.
example: (22+28)/2 * 0.5 = 12.5mm
Outer diameter of a gear is: number of teeth multiplied by Module + 2 times Module.
example: 22*0.5+2*0.5 = 12mm

PS: my Revell Gato got a Brüggen inspired gearbox for 2 385ers as it is wide enough.
