            Tom,

it is actually there right now, no room at the apartment.

it is on the bottom shelf, next to my little USCG utility boat.

              A few more shots of

A few more shots of progress on "USS Alligator Junior".

Clad only in red primer, she is not really seaworthy yet. I just stuck the WTC from my Alfa in the tube just to see how she'd float. The weird looking stuff on the bottom of the pond is sand and dirt that blew in from the construction site next door. By SubRegatta time next year that will be complete.

The conning dome was made from half of a 2 1/4" copper spherical float from McMaster Carr.

Thanks to a suggestion I got from this message board, I made a rack out of a chunk of 4" PVC for the WTC to mate up to. To service the WTC - I just slide it out the rear end. The Golden Rod makes up to the foreplanes up front.

Follow my progress on this project for the Discovery Science channel at

                Beautiful job on the dome,

Beautiful job on the dome, Tim! Reminds me of my dad's old hard-hat helmet.

By the way, is Dave M. doing his Alligator as the paddle version, propeller version, or both?

Thanks Geo. I wish I could take 100% credit for the brass job, but I have a local buddy who is a retired pattern maker. I swear he could solder a banana peel to an ice cube.

DM3 is doing the prop version of Alligator. The thinking was the the oared version wouldn't function as a 1]Hatching a Gator website[/url]

                    Just did the surface trials

Just did the surface trials on my never ending Robbe project. I have a Robbe U-47 with an Accurate Armor tower and deck gun. Two speed 400 motors with belt drive reduction from ships-n-things, two MCD Super Minicon II Speed controllers, Ace Nauticle commander radio and brass props. I have some shots of her on my web page www.bogart.freeservers.com page three. Still need to decide what ballast system I will use.

                        It's been a long time

It's been a long time . . . years in fact, since I've touched an RC sub but I've decided to get back into the hobby again. On my work bench is a 33" Soviet Alfa which I layed up using a Bob Husar mold. I am working on all the hull details and openings while waiting for my WTC to come in from Small World Models (Dave Manley). It should be up and running by early spring.

                          Hi everyone,

                          No new subs

                          Hi everyone,

No new subs for me but I'm getting around to adding some of that extra gear to my clear boat. As some of you saw at the regatta I got the periscope installed but it was just a manual control set-up. Since then I've gotten the math co-processor to work and I am getting close to having the 'dead-reckoning' software done for the target tracking. The periscope already has encoders on it for its direction relative to the bow and I just got the digital compass finished for the sub's true heading. I'm going to be doing some tests on a new speed sensor and hopefully will get a resolution that's small enough to be useful in calculations.
Another 'sub' project on the ways is a 4 foot long leopard reef shark. A special effects sculptor friend is scupting it for free(thank god). When he's done I'll have to trick...er, talk another co-worker into making a mold and skins for me. I'm planning to have it propel itself with its tail only. I've made fish that flap their tails before for commercials and they seem to move quite realistically. It'll be a fun challenge to actually get it to swim.
