2004 Builder's Survey - "On the Ways" - What's on Everyone's Workbench?
With any luck I will have my 1/16 scale scratch built British midget submarine X-24 ready to run when we move outside again in April / May. I have set this up to intially run with
Sub Tech's WTC from my Albacore. At that pont hopefully
I will get back to building my 1/72 Ships n'Things Permit.
I'm adding a brass deck to my Robbe U-47, the deck is etched by Jeff Larue and I got it from Al Matava at Ships'N'Things. It's coming along nicely together with the AA Conning Tower and I now only have some finishing up to do.
It's a beautiful deck and I've used some hints in the latest SCR to attach the deck to the hull, I've also used some of the original methods from Robbe so it's a mix.
I'm also scratchbuilding the "shark sub" from the Tintin comic books, I'm sure you guys in europe knows this one, it basically looks like a shark with a clear pilothouse.
I'm working on a Thor Design Permit class sub. I'm adding some simple animation - I opened up the bridge area on the sail. I'll have the CO duck down the hatch as the boat dives. I rigged a little "Z" out of brass rod, that pivots on the sail planes connect rod. The Z has a small round turn bent into the center. One end of the Z has the torso of a HO gage person on it. The other end of the Z has a piece of foam. As the boat dives, the foam forces the CO down the hatch.
Right now on the bench I have]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] And pictures are available upon request.
Bjorn the Tintin sub is a pretty cool one, I was toying with the idea of making one myself, but it seems to change dimensions in almost every drawings, did u manage to get plans for it or are you just going to use 'artistic licence' ?
Still working on my Patrick Henry. Added two access holes (front and rear) so I can reach every inch of the hull and use it competely. I use the same technic for opening and closing as the original access on top of the boat.
This was needed since I added two Graupner (JR) bowtrusters. I can turn this baby on a dime now (instead of 10 metres). A funfeature is that I can also move sideways with a flip of a switch. No. It's not scale, but very handy in very confined areas (portable clubbassin for demo's). Add pictures later for others who are interested.
Since I can fully use the space I can now take along 2 6Volt/10Amp battaries. Motor is now an old Robbe Decaperm 6V. I didn't like the original motor setup since it's noisy and not very handy for maintanance.
Also added a periscope system. Now working on scribing and detailing the hull.
More to come, perhaps not all very scale-like, but hey, It's all about having fun isn't it.
Keel laid (ok, ok... I opened the box..), ThorDesign 1/96 SEAWOLF. If I can figure out how, I will post some pictures here, or once the member pages are sorted out. Great looking kit!
-1/64 Royal Navy Trafalgar class HMS Trenchant 95% finished. Completing MBT vents. Redoing TT shutters. Tested and balanced. Proud of her!
-1/43 scale German built Israeli Navy Dolphin class 40% finished. Single hull. Have been waiting 15 months for CNC parts promised from SC member. Sail done. Ready to resign from SC if Dolphin parts not delivered and will build independently. Nuff said.
