SubRonLA Squadron Ops coming up on July 16

Just a reminder to all that per our mutual agreement at our last squadron run, our NEXT local run will take place Saturday, July 16 at the usual spot in Yorba Park in Anaheim. Remember, it's five bucks to get in the park. I plan to get there around 8:00; Will usually arrives somewhat earlier. So far he and I are the only two confirming our planned attendance. Any/all interested others please post your intentions below.

Many thanks, and see you there!

I am planning on being there. I have a conference in Boston Tues - Fri, but will be back in Las Vegas Friday night. Look forward to seeing everyone again!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

From the 91 Fwy going south out of Corona, exit Yorba Linda Blvd going west.
Turn left on La Palma Ave.
There are three sections to the lake.
We run in the center section.
Enter gate on La Palma Ave.
Once you leave the entry gate you will turn right.
You will pass a parking lot on your right.
          Then another on your left.
When you get to the second parking lot on your left, turn in.
Park about center of lot and walk towards lake. (180 feet)
There are tables and a small roofed area.

                Tom,
                Thank you.
                I will bring the Skipjack.
At least I could do another range test.
I have also disconnected the two mast winches to make things easier to trouble shoot.
That gets me down from 7 channels to 4.
I have time to label all the connections and get it back together so I have a starting point.
                Thanks again.

Good to hear all this infield chatter.

Welcome, Farlan, it will be great to have a newcomer...and another Blueback for MY Blueback to run with! E-mail me so I can get you on my regular mailing list.

I'll also have a little something for you at the run. Remind me.

I managed to get my little Delta happily puttering around the pool today, with a rough trim, still a bit positive on the buoyancy, and missing some dress up items, but good enough to run.

                    See you all Saturday.

Great, Neil! Welcome to the Skipper's Lounge. That means at the moment we are seven: Will, Mike, TomC, newcomer Farlan, Ralph, Neil and me. Any other takers?

Just a quick update on progress with my Skipjack.
                        ------------------
The cylinder is out of the boat.
The electronics tray is out of the cylinder.
Testing each component one by one.
Have found some things that don't make sense to me but they I am not a radio guy.

First range testing failed at about 100 feet.
Today's range test had the main motor fail at 250 feet and the servos failed at 400 feet.
More things to try and test.
Disconnecting both speed controllers to see what the range is for just the servos.

It appears that one of the issues is the main power and how it is feeding all the items.
I will isolate the power tot he Rx from the speed controllers and motors.
Basically, I will power everything but the Rx with the lipo battery and then add a 4 battery pack for just the Rx power.

I still have a couple of days to work on this problem.

No matter what, I plan to be at the park this Saturday.

                          More testing.
Started with a simple Rx, modified servo (turned in to motor) and battery pack.
This simple system was good to over 1100 feet.
                          I wasn't walking any father.
                          -----------
Move back to the boats electronics tray.
                          Everything works on the table.
                          Now for the distance.
Still have an issue but it does not kick in until I get out about 1000 feet.

Only the main motor speed controller connection is lost.
                          Everything else still good.

It appears the problems came from the two speed controllers feeding power to the Rx.
I have disconnected the power from the speed controllers and have a 4 battery supply for just the Rx.

                          This is bit good news.

Good for you, Ralph. Keep at it. I recently chased bugs in my Seaview (with Big Dave's help) until we isolated the speed controller. Tossed it. Got a new one. Works fine (at the moment).

I have replaced both main motor and ballast pump speed controllers.
I put in the speed controller I had planned to use originally.

I read the spec on this controller and found it has plenty to give and can run my main motor as well.
So, I replaced the main motor speed controller with another one like the one I put in for the Ballast motor.
                              ----
The first thing I like is the is speed controller does not have to be paused at zero for 2 seconds before reversing the motor direction.
I have put together a 4 AA battery pack to fit under the electronics tray that will power only the Rx.
The lipo battery pack will run the 2 speed controllers and motors.
This after noon I drove all over the desert to find a DPST switch.
3 plus hours of stopping every where I could think of.
I finally found a DPDT switch I can cut two blades off of once I get the thing wired up.

The AA battery pack is on the charge.
In the morning, I will finish the switch wiring on the electronics tray.
Water testing for leaks and balance tomorrow afternoon.
There are things that will require cleaning to make it all look good but that can wait until next week.
Operational first, make it look good later.
I could put a black piece of paper in the cylinder and no one will be able to see the wiring mess in side.
Naw! . . I am not than vain.

Besides, I make the mistakes and others can learn for them.
                              Hey...that makes me a teacher!
Ya'll are in trouble now. ;^)
