    Recommendation Please

    Hello

I have plans to make a small 1/35 submarine a static diver which will have a WTC with an O.D of 1.25". I need a 4 channel 75mhz FM receiver that will FIT inside and work with a Futaba 75mhz FM Transmitter.

Anyone able to give me a brand recommendation and link to?

Thanks In advance for your help.

    George,

What is your wall thickness? If the I.D. is 1.00" then a Sombra SL-8 receiver can work. The challenge will be finding one since they are no longer in production. The Shadow receivers from Sombra wouldn't work since the servo pins are oriented at a right angle to the receiver board.

I happen to have a Sombra SL-8 Rx that I will be using in a small system.
Jeff's post reminded me I had it here in the house.

Here is a photo of the Rx (on the right) with programmer (on left). (.75" wide, 1.75" long, .5" tall)
Right click on it to see it full size.

          George,

Sorry, can't help you there.....I've never had any of those, so I don't know the dimensions.

Robot Market Place has several small Rx listed and the best part is they show the measurements of each.

              Hello again

Thanks ALL esp. Ralph for the link.

If I understand it the GWS will work with my Futaba 75mhz FM Dual Conversion radio. I just need to buy a set of TX / RC Crystals for the system to work, are they to be Futaba or GWS Crystals?

Be aware that robot marketplace does not have all frequencies available. You may want to call first before ordering

But, most are not available. It shows almost all are discontinued and removed from stock. ☹️

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

                    Hello again

So that means if I was to use the GWS receiver, I have to use the GWS dual conversion crystals also in my Futaba Transmitter Y/N? I can`t use my Futaba D/C TX/RX crystals OR can I use my Futaba Dual Conversion Crystals in my TX and the GWS receiver?

Also the GWS specs say single narrow band NOT Dual Conversion, does that mean I can use my Dual conversion Futaba TX radio with Dual conversion TX/RX crystals etc.

tested the Rx(GWS-8M) many years ago with the same frequency crystals that came with the Futaba FP-T7NFK it works. so you don't need to buy a new crystal for the Tx.
GWS only make single conversion Rx for 75 Mhz. FM
get the Rx for Futaba only and the "GWS" very very small crystal to match your Futaba FM Tx frequency, it should work.

or join the lost hair club of 433Mhz, cheap to join and save lot of $ no need to see the barber again.

                        Build the boat first.

There are times when the size and location of the receiver has an impact on how one builds the boat. I suspect given the size and scale of this potential build that this will be the case.

The point I was really addressing was that in building a very small boat a this scale, finding radio equipment is a minor factor. Most of the fixtures and fittings will need to be bespoke. I'm sure if George gets whatever vessel he has in mind up to stage where it's pretty much ready to go and just needs a receiver, one will be made available.

I recently ordered a 75MhZ receiver from Robot Marketplace, and received a 72mhz instead. Called many many times, always closed, emailed them many times ...NO RESPONSE...Finally had to sick American Express on 'em to reverse the funds...still heard nuthin.
Not a reputable business in my books.
