    Dumas Akula Parts

Since I have always loved experimenting with the Dumas Akula I have been working on a upgrade kit that will allow the user to convert it to an X tail submarine. Should make for an interesting driving sub for sure. I also have to admit I was partially inspired by Wayne Freys conversion of his Akula. They are not meant to look scale but instead are designed to give extreme maneuverability.

On the other had one of my new Canadian buddies Ian has been hounding me for a scale like upgrade kit to keep appearances up. So I folded.

      Cool idea my friend!!
      X-tails are the Bomb!!!
Turn on a dime and give you 5 cents change.
I made a scale set of surfaces for the Akula that was sold by Subtech years back and it looked good, but the small size made it handle slugishly. (Is that a word?)
I have 5 X-tail subs and love them!!
BTW-Did you take up playing with Lego's again?? Sorry!! BD.

Yeah I have been pulling them out one set at a time and will mount them up on my akula. I think I will give it a marvin the martian style paint job for fun

I remember trying to get a set of your upgrade fins back when i first started this hobby I plan to overcome some of the loss of control with a full flying lower rudder. Had to do it on my Alfa just so it wouldnt suck to drive. What problems did you notice exactly so I can try and get rid of them before I move to final molds.

Legos..yeah I find I really like them for making molds. Very consistent mold shapes which work out good for me when making two part molds.

Don will like the paint scheme for sure.
I put plug in plexy extentions on my surfaces and it turned OK.
With the X-tails you should not need anything. BD.

Finished the intermediate mold for the "scale" appendages and cast three of them up to be modified to make my rudders and stern planes.
