Revell Type 7 R/C, ok I will do it!

Due to the popularity of this exciting new kit; I have decided to produce an affordable R/C conversion package for this boat.
I expect to be able to offer this for approximately 85.00 and it should be as simple and efficient as my high end kits.
It will likely include gas ballast tank, forward dive plane output and linkage, aft rudder output and linkage, and access hatch in top of main compartment.
Will include two motors and 4.8v battery pack
This will NOT be a cylinder, it will be an easy to install, set of pressure bulkheads and I will try to make this as least invasive as possible.

You will need to supply speed control with bec, battery charger for 4.8v on board batterys, and a 4 or more channel radio.
Now the bad news, I do not know when I will have this ready for ordering as I have other more pressing projects to tend to, but I hope to have it available this fall.

    Dave,

    Dave,

Already well underway at ThorDesign and Atomic Subs. Lyle Jansma and I have been working together on this project, but have tried to keep it quiet. Your approach is somewhat different than ours as ours will come with a cylinder with electronics.

          hello fellow Revell VII fans...
I am glad the intrest in this kit is so high. I know any after market upgrades to this kit are going to be a hit. And a gold mine to the guys that come up with them. What kind of glue should you use on this boat so it won't come apart and also, how do you plan on keeping the deck on to rc it?

                Casey, hey I know this

Casey, hey I know this one, good old fashion Tester glue, the kind you used as a kid!!! This will hold the plastic together in water. You can order these models from internethobbies.com, but you can expect a delay..... good luck Jeff J.

                  if I glue the deck

if I glue the deck on, (brass) I was going to try 2 hr epoxy, thats if I split the hull, will have to wait until I get to that point. Or see what is working for some of the other guys. JJ

                          Greetings, group

I just bought one of these kits this morning--not a bad job from our friends at Revell/Germany. I was thinking about what it would take to make it operational, but not being a sub guy I thought I'd check this board first. Glad I did--I'll be awaiting any announcements of aftermarket upgrades with great interest...

Dave Merriman has warned us all epoxy will trun to jelly if imersed too long
try j b weld or pc7 marine epoxy (yes epoxy) formulated for imersion hence the word marine

Epoxies that have a cure time of something like less than 90 minutes will soften in water. Those with longer cure times will not be a problem for us.

I use several epoxies that have given me good service. West Systems and Anchor Bond (90 minute) being the two I most often use.

Recently I have been experimenting with a Scotch-3M epoxy (I don't have the part number handy) that has an even longer cure time and is supposed to be good for bonding different materials together...like plastic hulls and etched brass decks..... When it cures it is not the hard, brittle substance that most epoxies are, it seems to retain a slight amount of 'give' to it. This could be just what we need!
