awesome looking hull... Will this kit come as an almost ready to run model like the blueback kit?

Will the presence of a pumpjet propulsor deter some modelers away from this kit because of the difficulty of building it? If so, could this sub be converted to the Trafalgar, which has a normal 7 bladed screw?

bcliffe, where did you find that color guide? Can you give the website?

                Truthfully it was Steve Reichmuth

Truthfully it was Steve Reichmuth (the master of research) who found it a number of years ago. It was from a vendor in the UK who was selling a resin kit. For the life of me I can't rember the name of the company, even though I built the kit. I got a paper copy of the colour scheme with the kit and scanned it.

If the old message boards were searchable you could probably find it. My guess is it would have been early 2000 (Feb/March)

                Cheers

This kit will be very easy to get in the water, like my other kits, you will only need to drop in the radio, cut the flood holes, ballast it with led and foam and paint.
The pump jet will be simple; it is in two parts, the prop and the shroud and should only take 2 minutes to assemble.
I was planning to assemble them myself but for shipping purposes I may not be able to.

                      Dave! You blow me away!

Dave! You blow me away! Studying it and the other images you have shared. Simply perfect. Your incorporation of the shroud into the stern area simplifies plenty. Glad to have assisted in a small way in it's research. I knew this wouldn't be wasted.

This model is your best yet, and your other kits are already #### good! The Trenchant model with it's Pump jet shroud should likely turn better than a Seawolf in that same scale. Why? The British use the largest rudders possible combined with the smallest size PJ shroud (chord length) they can get away with (as on the real submarines). This appears just the opposite on the Seawolf's and Virginia's making me suspect the American PJ's have much more to them (morphing?). This is typically what we Americans do. An added ton of complexity to gain just several pounds increase in performance. Wow! Beautiful work. The Brit's will be pleased too!

                      Steve Reichmuth

                        Trenchant sailed for first time

Trenchant sailed for first time today, she ran very well with the speed of my Lafayette and almost the turning of my oyashio, turning diameter is approximately 7 ft.
Turning on the surface is approximately 15 ft with no turning at all in reverse.
Was very stable and responsive, especially at speed, I’m very happy with this new boat and I think my customers will like it.

That's about 1/2 of the Seawolf's turning radius. I think Steve's point is proven.

                              ... which they are. All

... which they are. All four of my subs are 1/96 scale.

It may be interesting to learn the turning radius of OTWs 1/72 Trafalgar with the propulsor configuration. There should only then be inch difference between the two boats.
                              (1/96 Seawolf vs 1/72 Trafalgar)
This may indicate whether the performance difference is due to the different propulsor designs, or the overall differance in hull size.

                              Cheers
