The Mare Island SubCommittee will be combining forces with Western Warship Combat Club and the San Francisco Model Yacht Club at the 2014 Bay Area Maker Faire, May 16 - 18 at the San Mateo County Event Center, in San Mateo, California.
The group will be assembling a 44' x 72' x 14" deep pond in an arena that seats 1,100 people. Western Warship Combat Club stages battles in which RC warships attempt to sink RC cargo ships and other warships in Axis vs Allies engagements. These battles last approximately 20 minutes, and are scheduled every hour and a half, starting at 11:00am. From 10:00am to 11:00am, and in between battles, SFMYC members will be teaching people to operate RC surface ships, and SubCommittee members will be doing the same with subs - very similar to the annual sub and surface event at the casting pool in Golden Gate Park.
This is an opportunity for sub enthusiasts to show off their hobby to crowds of people, and recruit new members.
If you are interested, either in helping assemble the pond on Friday, May 16th, or in demonstrating/operating/teaching prospective club members all about submarines, please contact David Maquez, Mare Island SubCommittee <david@atsca.com>, or me: Rob Wood <rwood@hypergold.com>. We are particularly looking for anyone with the means to shoot video of sunken ships after battles. We will be uploading these videos during the two-day event.
