Finally got a chance to post some pics from the regatta. Many thanks to all who worked the regatta: Bruce and Brenda Martin, Mrs. Goodcookie, Don May, Don Spielberger (aka Don3), Chris Campbell, SubRon6, Canadian Mafia, and anyone else I forgot. What a beautiful weekend with low humidity and temperatures.
Here is a 30 minute video of Don's excellent Saturday evening fiberglassing seminar.
Had a look at this, as I do a bit of GRP work myself, so always interested to see how others do things. I thought it was a good tutorial, but one point to pick-up on was about chopped strand matt not being suitable for use with epoxy resin, this is true to a degree, but slightly misleading.
There are two kinds of chopped matt, styrene bound, and powder bound. Styrene bound is only suitable for use with polyester based resin systems, because this resin contains styrene which dissolves the styrene binder making the matt compliant to the tool.
Powder bound matt can be used with both epoxy and polyester resin systems, the rub is the price- powder bound matt is considerably more expensive than styrene bound, and also not so readily available.
