    SubRegatta 2008 Raffle Prizes

    Hi Guys -
once again we are looking for raffle prizes for the SubRegatta. As you know, the money from the raffle funds the event.

Long time SC member and former membership chariman, Jim Butt, (subdude17349@comcast.net) will be collecting prizes this year. I hope you will do anything you can to help us out. Books, unbuilt kits, RC electronics and anything else having to do with submarines or RC are welcome!

Please don't sit around and ask "What can the SubCommittee do for me?" Instead ask "What can I do for my favorite club, the SubCommittee?"

    Tim,

I'll never build my 1:72 Revell Wolfpack boat. It's all there, parts still in plastic, but the box looks like crap and the decals are ruined (water damage.....to a sub....go figure. On the floor next to my washer when it blew a hose).

If you want it, it's yours. Kind of an ugly looking prize with it's warped up box, but like I said, it is complete.....less the decals.

      Tim,

Doubt I'll wind up with quite as much stuff to donate as in previous years, but have already collected a good-sized new R/C toy sub and a handful of underwater pool toys (as before) for the cause. Question: ship to Jim B. or ship to someone in the Carmel area as before? (With all my own gear to schlep, I don't wanna bring the stuff with me on the plane.) Will continue to collect until closer to the date, BTW, and ship en toto then.

      Best,
      JeffP

I'll throw an LED Navigation Light set into the pot again this year, and add to it a pair of ADF's (my new combo pitch stabilizer and failsafe devices) as well.

                  More swag!

                  Folks,

Bob Gesking has generously offered up a Revell 144th kit of the Type VII D minelayer.

Revell German Submarine Typ VII D 1]

One of the most important weapons used in marine warfare was the mine. In order to bring this weapon close to the enemy shipping lanes, the German Navy used special submarines. The type VII D was a lengthened sub-variant of the successful type VII C battle submarine. To enable it to transport and lay type SMA moored mines a section with five mine silos each holding 3 SMA mines was incorporated behind the conning tower. This extended the overall length by 9.80 metres. As these submarines were otherwise the same as the type VIIC (unlike the large mine layers) they could be used to attack enemy vessels in the Battle of the Atlantic. The six subs (U-213 - U-218) were built at the Germania shipyard at Kiel and engaged in a total of 31 operations against the enemy. They sank 10 ships with a total of 42,622 GRT. By the end of the war five of these submarines had been sunk and became iron coffins for 241 submariners. Only U-218 survived the war and arrived in Bergen, Norway on 8.5.1945. This one finally sank during Operation Deadlight on 4.12.1945 while towing HMS Southdown.

Now here's a raffle table prize that you won't find just anywhere! A Type VII C, specifically U-581, done in pewter and as a desktop butane cigarette lighter! Don't smoke? Who cares? It's still a cool conversation piece for the U-Boat fan (and who isn't?)

Gato/Balao class Submarine of World War Two PLAN eBOOK

We take great pride to introduce our all new GATO & BALAO class Submarine Plan eBook in CD format. This is a rework of the original printed version, which has been out of print for several years. This is a complete exterior plan guide of these famous submarines of WW2. Shown are about 150 drawings of ALL exterior parts of these two classes of “Boats”. Also, 140 photographs complement the drawings as you move down the sub’s exterior from the “Bull Nose” to the “Turtle Back”. All exterior equipment, ordnance and many variations of the bridge fairwater are included. General arrangements are in 1/8”=1’ (1/96) scale. Many larger. This IS the most complete book on this subject ever published.

Also, an Early Gato class Subs cd (can't find the description for this one, sorry)
