    SubRegatta Saturday SubSeminar Speakers

Ok guys - I need suggestions for speakers for the Saturday evening SubSeminar at SubRegatta 2007.

What do you want to hear about? Who do you want to hear speak?

Ideally we would have someone talk about a basic RC sub topic for the newbies, plus a couple of others with more advanced topics...

Post your ideas here or shoot me an email at president@subcommittee.com

Let's get our thinking caps on!

A big crowd for SubSeminar 2006. See the speakers on Kerry Addington's SubRegatta 2006 2 DVD set!

    Tim,

    Tim,

    "RC Wiring for Dumbies"

I'd like to hear about wiring. Any kind of wiring. Basic wiring of a WTC—do's and don'ts in order to reduce radio interference—proper grounding—incorporating waterproof switches on the outside so you don't have to unhook everything all the time—wiring LED lights and what is needed as far as resistors, fuses, any kind of basic voltage-resistance formulas to follow, how much voltage to use, or can you use, with 6V and 12V rated motors, etc. Maybe how gearing a motor helps and how to measure the resistance applied to a motor, and why it's important to know—ill effects.

This is the great unknown for me. Some of the guys are engineer types and have at least basic knowledge on this. I have practically none, and sometimes feel very limited by it. And I'm very intimidated by the electrical aspect of our hobby.

There could be a basic discussion—very simple—for one. Intermediate and advanced as another one. I know there are guys like Skip out there that know this stuff, and may help.

    Pete

      Jim Schwinkendorf and Richard Pflanzer

Jim Schwinkendorf and Richard Pflanzer have agreed to talk to us about their experiences building their Engle Gato kits. Both are in various stages of construction and trimming so it should be a good collaboration. They will share a half hour with slides and show and tell.
      Thanks for stepping up guys!

      Who else?

        I agree with Pete a

I agree with Pete a WTC topic would be good, dont just limit it to wiring though a General overview of WTC Construction would be good, it wouldnt even be to hard to do a "Live Demo" either

          Tim,

One subject that is always considered part science and part black magic is how to trim a sub.....

A topic that was part slide presentation (theory) and part live demonstration (practical) would be quite useful to folks....especially those newcomers.

Guys - let me know who you have in mind for these topics...if you're too shy to ask them, I will.

Jeff - are you volunteering to do one on trimming?

                  I will not be able

I will not be able to attend, but maybe some of these topics might
                  prove useful :

                  - batteries : types, capacity and duration, care&feeding, etc.
                  - how to calculate a simple Led + resistor setup when using leds as
                  navigation lights
                  - motors : a 101 on brush, brushless, stalling, frying your ESC, and the
                  magic 3 capacitors, of course

in my case it's more along the lines of things like air fares

which reminds me I did promise a SCR article on servo hacking.
                      hmmm.

Still looking guys. I just heard from Jim Schwinkendorf that he will NOT be able to attend the SubRegatta this year due to another committment - so we are STILL looking for volunteers for Saturday Night Sub Seminar speakers.

Kevin McLoed - Speaker at SubRegatta 2007!

                            Great news!

Kevin McLeod has agreed to be one of our speakers for the Saturday Night SubSeminar. As you know - Kevin recently published an article about his fantastic build of a Russian Oscar Sub in the SCR, as well as being a frequent contributor to this website.

                            Many thanks Kevin!

Rick Galinson - speaker at Saturday Eve SubSeminar

Electronics guru Rick Galinson will be one of our speakers for the Saturday Night Seminar at SubRegatta 2007. Rick won top engineering honors for his visible sub at SubRegatta 2005 and has amazed us all with the incredible features of his sub! Thanks for stepping up Rick!
