SubRegatta 2005 - It's Official!

Mark your calendars for July 30 -31 2005. The International SubRegatta is being held in the trendy northern suburb of Indianapolis - Carmel, Indiana.

NEW INFO as of March 21, 2005

The official hotel will be the Doubletree - which is only about 3 miles from the pond.

There's also a spacious pool for pre-regatta sub shakedown runs and check dives!

SubRegatta room rates at the Doubletree are $90 for a suite that will hold three guys (2 double beds plus a hide-a-bed).

You could take I-80 west through Cleveland and visit the USS COD on the lakefront. From Cleveland, take I-71 south to I-70 to Indy.

For those trying to plan

For those trying to plan their summer vacation routes, here is some information on museum subs in the Great Lakes area. Mileages and travel times from MapQuest.

U-505 at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, 5700 Lake Shore Drive. Distance from Carmel is about 172 miles, 3 hours 29 minutes. The new U-505 exhibit hall is scheduled to open in Spring of 2005.

USS SILVERSIDE (SS 236) 1346 Bluff Street, Muskegon, MI is about 249 miles and 5 hr 43 minutes away.

USS COD (SS224) ia at 1089 East 9th STreet in Cleveland, OH. Travel is about 324 miles, 5 hr 18 min. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Steamship MATHER are a short walk away.

USS COBIA (SS245) is at 75 Maritime Drive, next to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc. Travvel is about 349 mile, 6 hr 27 min. Electric Boat built 28 GATO &BALAO class subs here during WWII.

USS CROAKER (SS 246) is at 1 Naval Park Cove in Buffalo, NY. About 516 miles from Carmel with an 8 hour drive.

The actual address of the pond (if you are MapQuesting it) is 802-3rd Ave SW Carmel, IN 46032. The pond doesn't show up on the Mapquest map yet because it is too new.

There are tons of hotels in the area and we will have a list available soon.

I want to thank Tim for sending me the Hi-Res copy of the 05 regatta poster. I will print out some and give them to the local Hobby shops. You never know, there could be someone in your area that is a closet Bubblehead. I hope to see you all at the regatta next year. Dave.
