Ladies, Gentlemen and creatures of indeterminant origin,
Building on the success of our SUBFEST event in Georgia, I have been playing around with the idea for a while now of an event closer to the west coast. There seems to be a healthy population of we bubbleheads out there, and the weather allows for a later run than any event in more northern climes.
To that end, I and a few others have zeroed in on a potential venue in Laughlin, Nevada. It's called the Avi Resort and Casino, and they have a beautiful private lagoon with three docks, white sand beach, available tables and tents, onsite restaurants, RV camping across the street, and ridiculously low room rates (think around $60 to $80/night). The water in the Colorado river there is crystal clear, and it's only two hours south of Las Vegas in case we want to queue up a field trip after running one night. I have spoken with management there and have a friend heading out to personally view the venue in the coming couple of weeks.
I feel this venue could outshine even the superb Red Clay Resort where the original SUBFEST is held.
Is there any interest if we were to shoot for a mid-November event? If we can get over 20 rooms booked, room rates drop even more. If we can get 50 attendees (which we had at SUBFEST this year), then we can get free banquet hall rental for group meals, too.
How about a virtual raise of hands for anyone interested!?
