I joined the Subcommittee site years ago as I have always had an interest in submarine history/design. After surfing the net and this site once again after a lengthy absence I noticed a regatta is held annually in Carmel, IN which is where I have lived for the last 3 years. What is the connection between this site and Carmel, IN? It's not the first place I would have expected an event such as this.

The reflecting pond offers an ideal environment for running subs. It's large, not too deep, you can see easily to the bottom, and the park can easily handle the number of people this event draws each year. I highly recommend attending. You won't be disappointed!

2019 Carmel Sub Fun Run Tech session

Due to the success and positive comments from the 2018
Carmel Sub Fun Run Tech session, we are pleased to announce we
are also planning on having a R/C Sub Tech session for 2019.

If you are planning to attend, we would like to get some ideas
on what R/C Submarine topics you would like to hear about.

For example: ballast systems, batteries, and so forth.

Depending on the amount of subjects, the discussions would
be around 10-15 minutes each, as we a limited amount of time
            in the discussion room.

Please use this thread to give us some ideas.

I would like to know more about programable radios and how to ballast your sub properly.
                Thanks

Great topics. We have a volunteer that said he will give a short presentation on programmable radios.
We now need someone to talk about ballasting your Sub. (ie: rules like Lead Low, Foam high, etc)

The presenter I mentioned above is Jim Butt. Thanks for doing this Jim.

Jim will be putting something together with the various settings and adjustments with computer radios for sub use, and the sequence to set them up. Thanks sgtmac for the suggestions.

Need some more presenters and topics to fill out this informal session at the Hilton Garden.

Maybe this year, maybe not. But eventually someone should speak on the impact 3D printing is having on our hobby. Ie what technology is now available and its many uses in boat building.

Good idea Eric, I'm learning about laser cutters, 3D printing and routing. Next year at least.

a snails pace would be lightspeed compared to my progress on my wet nellie project but 3d printing is a major part of mine. so much in fact im currently finishing up a custom 3d printer of my design to be able to print the upper and lower hull sections in one print and not have to be sliced into multiple sections then glued together. Its a lot of fun learning a whole different set of skills than what you thought you would be needed. my custom printer that so far im just calling the big one has a build area (projected) of 800x500x750z...

I'm definitely no expert in the field, I'm completely on the amateur side of utilizing 3D printers. But I'm currently involved in a fully printed r/c sub. If it's successful I would be willing to present on it for a few minutes Friday night.

I have been fooling around with 3d printing too. There are lots of files out there free to download and print, but it’s even more useful if you know how to use a good CAD program so you can create your own parts.

That would be great if you would do a presentation for us Eric. There is a lot of interest in the topic and I’m sure it will create a lot of discussion. Don’t worry about if you are successful in your attempts. By presenting what you have done will generate discussion and maybe someone will have answers to your questions.
