2018 Carmel Fun Run Wrap Up:
Thanks again to all for coming this year for the 5th Annual 2018 Carmel Fun Run. This year we had over
25 Registered Sub Captains running lots of RC Submarines. At last count we had over 60 RC Submarines present.
We wanted to extend a huge THANK YOU to all of you that attended and participated in another very fun and
successful Sub Fun Run at Carmel.
This year the weather was warmer, but a nice breeze made it very comfortable for all attendees. Carmel was
busy as usual with construction on many roads near the pond, but we all were able to navigate around it to get to the pond.
As usual there were many RC Submarines running in the pond and many spectators watching. This year I brought the
Big Dave Minion Submarine and let a little girl and other new Sub Captains of all ages run it. The Sub was a huge success
and hopefully gave them the bug to get involved in our hobby.
As usual there was a lot of interest in the swap table and the raffle table. This year’s raffle table contained enough to fil
l the table both days and generated a lot of ticket sales on both days. All of these great raffle donations generated enough in
ticket sales to pay for the event’s expenses.
A Special Thanks to Pete Piekarski for donating the 1/96 Ohio Class kit from his SubmarineWorks company.
This kit retails for $1500 on his website and created a flurry of raffle ticket sales on Saturday when we put it on
the raffle table.
On Saturday Night we held an RC Sub Tech talk at the Hilton Garden Inn. Special thanks to Kevin McLeod,
Don May, and Don Spielberger for their talks on various RC Submarine topics.
Captain’s Choice Awards Results
This year’s winners voted on by the registered Sub Captains were:
Captains Choice Awards:
First Place went to Jim Butt’s Holland VI.
Second Place went to Chris Rueby’s Green Sea Turtle
Third Place went to Bruce Martin’s Type XXI
Big Dave’s Engineering Award:
This year’s winner was Jim Butt’s Holland VI.
Special Thanks:
Chris Campbell for doing all of the on site work here in Carmel, once again.
Getting the special hotel rates at the Hilton Garden Inn
Getting tents, tables, and chairs delivered.

Coordination with the city of Carmel for access to the pond facilities.
Pete Piekarski for donating the 1/96 Ohio Class kit from his SubmarineWorks company.
This kit retails for $1500 on his website and created a flurry of raffle ticket sales on Saturday
when we put it on the table. Thanks again Pete, it is much appreciated.

Must be on that darn cell phone again or his watch. Who gave it back to him? That was a mistake.....We got it away from him once in the hotel.
