Wanted: Gato (USS Wahoo) prop drawings and photos

    Folks,

Does anyone have an accurate drawing of the 4-blade props that were used on the Gato-class fleetboat submarines? Photos would also be appreciated!

This is for a project that several of us have re-started to build the definitive USS Wahoo in 1/48 th scale.

More details as the project gets fully started.

    -many thanks,

    Jeff

If no one has it contact the Wisconsin Maritime museum, the link at the bottom of my post is the current posted prices for copies of plans and at the bottom right, click on the staff directory, you want to talk to Cristin Waterbury. Nice lady and very helpful. The plan you want to ask for is 2071-10 ALT.12

      Hi Don,

Many thanks! That's a great pointer. I'll give the museum a call.

I would like to get the Excel file with the complete plan list. One never knows what might be needed next.

        Sure thing just be careful

Sure thing just be careful because the Cobia was built with EB plans, If I remember correctly the Wahoo was Portsmouth. But the props should be O.K.

          Get a copy of Floating

Get a copy of Floating Drydock's Gato and Balao Plans eBook. It contains a couple of drawings of the 4-blade props the Gatos used during WWII. Go to www.floatingdrydock.com

            Rick,

I have both the original print edition as well as the newer ebook version. Neither shows any real detail for the props. What I'm hoping to get is something along the lines of the Fritz Kohl drawing for the props on the Type VIIC U-boat.

Boss subfixers posted link is fantastic. Go to the site and in the upper heading click on the submarine experience. Then click on USS Lagarto documentary. Very well done and worth the 8 mins. to watch it. Puts faces to the names and helps answer some questions about the missing sub.

The props for the 1/48th WAHOO are complete and waiting for my sorry slow butt to finish the rest of the boat to go with them. The hull will be ready this summer....then I turn it over to Jeff for fitting of the PE deck....
