    Gato class colour schemes?

Can anyone tell me if any of the Gato class boats were ever painted in a camoflauge pattern, similar to the way some German U-boats were painted?

    Hi Rich,

    I can't say that

    Hi Rich,

I can't say that I've ever seen a Gato or Balao with something akin to the stripes or botches that were sometimes seen on U-boats. The U.S. Navy did employ two paint schemes that were considered camouflage.....

Measure 32/3SS-B and 32/9SS-B - the vertical surfaces are painted with a pattern of light gray, medium gray and black. All decks and horizontal surfaces are painted a pattern of some sort of blue(?) and medium or dark gray.

      Must be my memory letting

Must be my memory letting me down again Jeff, but I'd swear that I'd seen a pic or two of a Gato looking just like a U Boat on Med Sea duty.

Not to worry, thanks for your help Jeff, much appreciated.

      Cheers,

      Rich
