More November Information
November (Project 627) with twin VM-A water cooled reactors, each generating 17,500 SHP. Designed by the Malachite design bureau. Novembers displaced 3986 tons submerged, had test depths of 300 meters (985 ft) and submerged top speed of about 30 kts. Interior side & top views of November class hull & exterior side view:

K-27, the liquid metal reactor variant, (Project 645), which had twin VT reactors with lead-bismuth liquid metal as coolant. Liquid metal reactors operate at higher temperatures and lower pressures than water cooled reactors, resulting in superheated steam temperatures and more propulsion efficiency. K-27 operated only 4 years before reactor coolant "froze" as a result of core cooling disruption.

This missile carrying variant of the November class, Project 639, lost out to the Kovalev design of the Hotel class (Project 658). Very similar in concept to the Hotel, with missile tubes in the sail.
