    Trumpeter 1/144 Gato- 1944 version- First Look!

    Here's a link to the new Trumpeter Gato model that is the later (1944) Gato version. Box, model & parts views.

    NOTE: the limber holes are correct for Gato 1944, as she received additional "slotted" holes, while retaining her original EB half moon style. This may make it easier to convert to a non-EB. Also, one of the aftermarket companies is making substitute pieces for the Trumpeter Gato to model the "goverment" (Mare Island/Portsmouth) limber holes.

    Build up of Trumpeter Gato-1944

    These are courtesy of James Corley at Nautilus Models. Note that the kit still comes with the 3 inch "pop"gun of the original "as built" Gato kit. I doubt if any subs were still equipped with that in 1944. Anyone know for sure?
