This has been a good week. On Thursday, the Sub Committee Report
arrived. Then, on Saturday, Christley's "U S Submarines 1941 - 45" and Classic Warship Pictorial #28 "Gato Type Fleet Submarines".
Both books are "must haves"
Christley's book is a good technical work on the fleet boat and its development. Understanding how something developed makes it clear how, and why, it ended up looking like it did. Lots of good pictures and the color plates make it much easier to see the result of the various paint schemes.
The Classic Warship book is a treasure trove of pictures. (Lee Upshaw was dead on) With lots of info in the captions. With these, and Floating Drydock's "Submarine Plan "BooK" and "Early Gato class Subs" CDs, no one should have any, real, problem building the Sub they want. In the time frame they want.
The only thing I'm waiting for, now, is Squadron Shop's "Gato Subs in Action". Due out soon.
Now, just to get greedy, how 'bout somebody putting out some books on Guppys in the Cold War?
