Type VII Class of U-boats - models

I'll start posting photos of my Type VII U-boat build here. Everyone is encouraged to do the same!

Here's a shot of my very first R/C sub, completed back in 1997. It's a DK Models 1/48th scale Type VIIC that uses a D&E WTC-3 mod 2 and has my custom photo-etched main and conning tower decks. Of course I ignored all the good advice I received about starting simple and easy.....no way was I going to wimp out and build a nuke tube!

More of this boat as I either find the photos or take new ones.

    OTW Type VIIC

...and here's the first couple of my OTW 1/32nd Type VIIC build.....

Before someone jumps in and rags on me for painting a U-boat with a red lower hull. Yes, I know that they were not like this during the war. My answer is that this is a boat shown just prior to the war.....during a period when the Kriegsmarine was still experimenting with paint schemes.

Oh, yea......before Sam jumps all over me. That's actually Sam's tower seen in the photos of the boat on dry land. We teamed up to get a boat presentable for one of the SubRegattas. I did the hull and he did the tower. The last photo in this posting shows my tower.....

This photo (above) shows some of the "sub deck" structure that I use to maintain the correct hull width. This boat was built with *no* internal bulkheads other than a small half-height bulkhead in the stern that was used as the mounting point for the forward ends of both prop shafts. This boat does *not* need any bulkheads!

And here's a photo of the hunter looking for prey......

      We often see some very

We often see some very nice bow quarter and side shots of Type VII U-boats....but rarely do we see a bows-on photo. You know, like the classic photo used for Clay Blair's Silent Victory.

So here's a picture that I too of my 1/32nd scale Type VII. This sucker looks mean, doesn't it! You can almost hear the shout, "Torpedoes Los!"

      -enjoy!

          JWL,

          In your explanation of

          JWL,

In your explanation of the red hull scheme, you forgot to say:

"It's my boat and I'll paint it any damn way I please."

....that's my take on it anyway.

              JWL,

              Really enjoy the pics

              JWL,

Really enjoy the pics of your OTW. Nice and big, both the pics and the boat. Great looking type VII. Does it operate as well as it looks ?

                The one thing that we

The one thing that we get from running the larger R/C submarines is a certain *presence* that the smaller models just cannot reproduce...and part of that is the very realistic way that the boat operates.

This OTW Type VII is one that has the presence!

                    Hello all,
had a day out with our local club's exhibition - I pulled my finger out to get U96 into a displayable condition - here are the results:

Some pictures of my Type 7A in 1:40 scale, scratch built...
I chose to build this boat because it was the shortest of the Type 7 u-boats.
It still is fairly long coming in at 64"

                            Desi,

Very nice choice of a particular Type VII. the red/white/blue stripes on the conning tower really make it stand out.

                              Hello Jeff and All,

I have moved from Lexington, SC and now reside in Alpharetta, GA. I have attaches a Christmas photo of my U-96 at its new home base in my expanded library and HDTV media room. FYI - Skizzenbuch is finished and I got a great recommendation from Jak P. Mallmann Showell to the publisher of Pen and Sword in the UK. I'm just waiting for an answer...
