Found this picture on the Coast Guard Black Hulls Facebook page. From the Facebook post

a picture of USS DARTER (SS 576) in drydock in Sasebo, Japan in March, 1984...and BASSWOOD has her back.

USCGC BASSWOOD (WLB 388) is a sister ship to USCGC BLACKHAW (WLB 390). USCGC BLACKHAW appears as one of the escorts of the RED OCTOBER, off her starboard quarter, during the opening credits.

I've read where the Mk 48 is designed to explode underneath the target and break the targets back (as evidenced by the photo)......
