    On my "need" list:

    - retractable cleats
    - bollards
    - non-ringed LA brass prop
    - zincs

if anyone has any of these items or knows where i can find them in this scale, please let me know.

    thanks!

      Eric,

You won't find anything for US nukes in 1/72, unless it was glommed out of an old kit. Whatcha makin'? There a no bollards on US submarines. Bollards to us are something that stick up out of a pier. You got retractable cleats and fixed cleats. Most folks get the cleat cover plate shapes wrong for the retracted ones. The fixed ones are pretty easy. Hull zincs are best made from styrene strip. The traditional cast white metal ones that come with kits are grossly out of scale. The styrene strip is even better for weathering, too. As zincs are consumed they turn into zinc oxide, white in color. You place your strips, paint the hull, a little creative scratching here and there, and bang! Realistically weathered zincs!!!!

You need some help, or additional info, just holler (pm, e-mail, etc.), we'll get you fixed up!

Never thought of the styrene. Good idea. Will use that.

And my mistake, I meant capstans, not bollards.

From "Modeling the Last of the Forty-One For Freedom"

"I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I would use HO gauge railroad spikes for the cleats. The spikes appear to be very close to scale. The next task was to make the capstans. For this I used 1/8 inch aluminum pop rivets. The rivet head was turned down using my drill press as a “vertical lathe” and a mill file to get to the diameter I needed for scale."
