D&E Miniatures WTC 3.5
Hey! This is the original water tight cylinder with adjustable ballast tank size for easy trimming (the new ones don't have this feature.) It also makes it a lot easier to move between models.
Only used once for the Alligator Junior model I built for the Discovery Science Channel movie "The Hunt for the Alligator - The US Navy's First Sub" so it's famous
There is no battery compartment. With this unit you mount a 12 v gel cell you can get at Batteries Plus for about $20 in the wet area of the model sub's hull.
Somewhere during the shipping back home from Washington DC where the movie was filmed I lost the push rods, but if you can solder you can make them easily in a few minutes. I'm just too lazy to make them for you. I'll make them for you for an extra $1000
Overall length - 20.25"
Diameter - 3.5"
Ballast Tank - adjustable 5"-8"
Aft Dry Space - 8.25"
Propel Gas Tank - 1" x 4"
Motors - 1 Graupner 500 E
ESC - 1 Novak Super Rooster
Servos - 3
Gas Saver - Yes
Dog Bone Coupler - Yes
Complete with the following electronics installed:
3 Futaba 3003 servos (new $30)
SubTech Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) (new $20)
Futaba seven channel FM 75 mHz receiver Ch 90 - (new $89)
Subtech Subsafe device ($30 new)
Subtech APC-4 leveller ($69 new - I think)
Novak Super Rooster Electronic Speed Control (ESC) ($85 new)
That's a total of $323 bucks worth of electronics and the bare bones WTC was almost $400 = $723 new cost.
