    Oberon/O class.

I am looking for a built up oberon class British/Australian sub as photo below. OTW or Darnel as long as it is nicely finished. Can anyone point me to a member that may have one? Any help will be much appreciated! Good price paid! All the best. AL.

    Hi,

The O-class doesn't seem to be a very popular model, I can only recall ever seeing a couple at shows. therefore you may have a bit of a search on your hands to find one.

Alan Poole built a really nice O-class from the OTW kit, won a gold at the ME exhibition. I don't think it's for sale, but if I see him around I'll try and remember to mention it- he may be tempted if the price is right!

I hope it didn't hurt too much when you twisted his arm!

Will we be seeing it at some shows this year?

Yes - well done. I've always fancied a model of Oberon since I had a visit on board many years ago when she was on a visit to Leith.

Andrew, which boat did you go on? I went on HMS Opertune when we went on a school trip to portland, years ago.

                        Paul - the memory fades!

Paul - the memory fades! My recollection is Oberon - but Ocelot rings a bell. I'll ask my son - he was there too. I do remember being being 'advised' by a crew member that the mess was designed to feed the whole crew in relays and was not - as I had imagined - one of several. 'Compact' is not the right word to describe it. Queuing to board on a damp hull was challenging too - as was moving through the sub with its small watertight doors and hatches. My back was certainly suffering afterwards - you needed to be fit to be a submariner! One of our Club members actually served on an 'O'-class - I must ask him which one and if he has any pictures.

I went to take a look at the harbour in Barrow last Sunday and HMS Onyx is still moored there.

There must be plans to open her for visitors this summer but I haven't heard anything. Anyone know?
