WTB: Beginners Sub - Wanted: sub for new guy

I am looking to get a sub. I am wondering if anyone has a beginner’s sub they would like to sell.

I race Fast Electric RC boats and have all the radio gear I need including radio, ESC and servos and batteries. I just need the sub and whatever else is needed to use it. I have some basic building skills so if it needs a little work that is OK.

I don’t need anything fancy and expensive. I just want a basic sub to use and see if I will enjoy it as much as I think I will.

I would just buy one of the Dumas kits and still may do that but thought I would see if there were any other options.

    Thanks

    Charlie,
you could go with a dynamic diver (no ballast tank) which is relatively inexpensive or a kit with a ballast tank.
You said that this would be a see if you like it project. Well you may like it more if you go with a ballast tank first time around.
I have driven dynamic divers and hate these compared with the love I have for my ballasted boats. So if you can afford it I'd go for a ballasted boat first time around.

I'd recommend SubTech's Albacore. Its designed for the beginner. You have RC experience so it should be an easy build job.
I think there's one for sale in mint condition (still in the box) on the sub swap page where you put your posting, or alternatively go to SubTech's site www.rcboats.com

Don't know if apperance of the boat will either make you like it more or less, but if scale appearance means something then
I'd also have a look at the Albacore.
    All the best
    John.

If you are into fast electrics, I would recommend the Delphin as it's an underwater fast electric!

Absolutely fantastic model, ideal for a beginner. It's a tiny model, so easy to transport, but you don't need any fancy miniature radio equipment.

Plus you can probably use motors and batteries from your fast electrics.

          Hello Charlie,

          The ThorDesign 1/96 Permit

          Hello Charlie,

The ThorDesign 1/96 Permit would be a good kit as well. With straight forward on-line instructions the Permit is an easy build for the beginner.
The fiberglass/epoxy hull is very durable as well as detailed giving a extremely nice finish.

another sub that seems to get very good reviews is the small world models blueback... it is a kit, but is pre-fab in many areas.
