    the Masterpiece Models 1/77 31" Nautilus $327

Buy it from Nautilus Dry Docks. What was here was another option for this kit, but I decided not to leave it as I suggest we keep our hobby in the states as much as possible.

I am assuming it can. I own one but I bought it from Nautilus Dry Docks and do not intend to convert it but keep it static. You can find the videos of it being converted on YouTube.

This is a case of you gets what you pays for.

Is it cheaper. Yes. Significantly cheaper? Uh, no.

Masterpiece Models recasts these with Scott Brodeen's permission. They used a casting to mold off of (casting of a casting). The lower price is attained through the use of lower quality resin and the fit and finish is not as good as the authentic Brodeen kits that I offer. You want to save a few dollars and add hours of cleanup time, go right ahead. My kits aren't perfect. None are. But they are of the highest quality. The kits come from the original master model, not a re-cast. I also offer a full salon kit, an LED lighting kit and a number of R/C conversion services as well.

Bob Martin - purveyor of significantly overpriced kits, apparently.

Is the poorer quality kit an unauthorized knock off, Bob?
          Regards,

No, as I mentioned, they are sanctioned by Scott, but not his work. Scott himself casts every part that I offer. Direct from the master's hands...

This is really weird, I have responded to this now three times. It keeps not showing up. So I'll keep it simple.

Bob is right his services and products are worth it! You get a personal experience via NDD with Bob and his product. You get faster shipping within the US, and as he said, his products come direct from Scott Brodeens hands. I cannot say the same for HLJ. I will say I have bought from both, and I love what I buy from HLJ but I've never bought one of these from them. Mine came from Bob and I love it! My money is on Bob, but if you're just wanting a cheap kit, it's your call. Buy at your own risk I just wanted to share another price option but if what Bob says is true and I'm sure it is, then I'd say go with Bob. I apologize for any negativity shed on NDD and Bob.

I'm an American so I say BUY USA and delete this post! So I did.

As a point of clarification, Masterpiece is an American company, and I've done business with the owner a lot over the years. I have nothing against him. He's going about business as he feels best suits him. I just don't agree with the lower quality/lower price formula. If someone here wants to go that route, more power to them.
