The submarine appears NOT to be a refurbished Golf II, as has been reported from some sources. The North Koreans received a number of Golf II submarines from Russia for scrapping in the mid 1990's. There is some possibility that they have copied the D-4 launch system that was installed on the Golf II. There is speculation around which missile (if any) it may be intended to launch.
One possibility is the 900-1500 km range Nodong missile, a North Korean Scud derived variant. See]http://missilethreat.com/missiles/no-dong-2/[/url]
Note to North Korea- Missile represent "power", are seen by some as a phallic-like symbol of power. If you want to be threatening to the US, hire a PR firm to come up with a better name for your missile than "Nodong"….
