USN currently has 31 fast attack subs in the Pacific.

The US Navy has 28 Los Angeles and 3 Virginia class fast attack/hunter killer submarines assigned to the Pacific fleet.
The USS NORTH CAROLINA SSN-777 where I live, is amoungst those doing the they're job quite well according to this report.
The graphics page the very end of this report is worth checking also.

I believe that all three Seawolfs are also in the Pacific, making that 34 attacks in that small area.

Thank you feet wet, I believe your right. The author of the article probably didn't think of the Seawolf class.
Anyways, I don't know if the Pacific ocean is a "small" area, but the way we are making Virginia class as fast as we are, that is good for the USA's security.
Even the Russians are picking up the pace of naval inventory, as are many nations aroung the globe.
