First the WWII era Japanese I-400 is found. And now, congratulations to the Japanese navy on the launch of their new KOKURYU submarine. Good timing, all this shift of naval forces towards the Pacific ocean. I'm sure the KOKURYU will do an outstanding service for Japan, ad NATO. Might be just me, but it is interesting how most of the post WWII Japanese submarines remind me of the USS BARBEL SS-580 somehow.

Nice chain link fencing----Does anybody know what class the Japanese submarine KOKURYU is in? I wonder if a 1/350 scale or 1/700 scale(STATIC) model is available of this new submarine.

it's a Soryu class submarine (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C5%8D...lass_submarine), it's similar to Oyashio-class with X-shaped planes; there is an Oyashio class in trumpeter's catalog. 1/700th scale. Length and hull diameter seem slightly enlarged.

Thanks Stefano, I noticed that Skywave/Pit-Road makes a 1/350 SORYU scale model, and they add the letter "U" in it's name, but it appears to be the same submarine. Problem is I can't find one for sale in the USA. About 90% of orders I've sent to Japan or China from off of the internet including ebay, they have stolen my money and do not send anything, even when they had a 100% feedback rating.------ So I don't order models from Japan or China anymore.-------- I have ordered static scale models from Austrailia, UK, Canada, Bulgaria, and other countries. all with good results/no problems. I'm going to take a close look at theTrumpiter kit you mentioned, and consider getting it. Although, I'm trying to collect only 1/350 scale, but somtime you have to go with 1/700 because of all the models that are available in that scale. OKB Grigorov is a good example. I wish he were to come out with a 1/350 scale model submarine for each 1/700 scale he has available.

I see where the guy on ebay has corrected his spelling on the(like I have a right to talk about spelling), Skywave Pit-Road model of the Japanese SORYU.

hello gp100man, I've mistaken Trumpeter for HobbyBoss about the 1/700th. I have seen some of the Pitroad 1/350th and they look fine, sadly they're quite difficult to get. You could check www.1999.co.jp, they're very reliable, look here

Although 1/350th allows for more detail, I'm an addict of 1/700th, currently I'm working on a (scratchbuilt) long-hull Sturgeon and an almost scratchbuilt U-212A (OKB one is less than ideal).
