    Can anyone ID this ??

    http://www.trawlerphotos.co.uk/gallery/ ... hoto=78682

Just been trawled up in the North Minch today by a Stornoway based prawn trawler. It looks like the lower rudder from an SSK ( markings are in meters as well ) but as there were extensive exercises in the Minch over the last month could it be part of a towed array ??

    Any help gratefully appreciated

    Davie,

    I would say upper rudder

    Davie,

I would say upper rudder of some boat since the draft markings start from top to bottom (it looks like a stern light fixture on the top too).

Have to be fairly big to have draft markings that deep.

      I dunno. It looks like

I dunno. It looks like an upper rudder fin true but I swear it looks like its made of lumber and fiberglass.

Which would make it even more of a mystery if you ask me.

        Paul,
If you click on the link and then click on the picture you get a bigger picture. The part I think you say is a stern light fixture appears to be a hinge pin.
Also if you compare it to the trash can behind it, the rudder if you will doesn't appear to be very big.
        Tom,
I don't know about the lumber but it does look like a fiber glass skin.
And those draft marks definitely add to the mystery.

          Huh, I guess I should've

Huh, I guess I should've clicked on the link. It does look like it was made out of wood and fiberglass. And I'm wrong about the light. Maybe a lost film prop?
          Warm regards,
