India vs. Pakistan... Russian Nuc vs. German Diesel

India to lease Russian nuclear sub
India plans to arm its navy with the newest Russian nuclear powered attack submarine by next year, according to the Hindustan Times newspaper.
Built to engage surface forces and coastal facilities, the Akula-2 class sub is equipped with 28 nuclear-capable cruise missiles.

Their striking range is 3,000 kilometers.

The Indian version is expected to be armed with more than 40 fire-units, including 28 nuclear missiles with a 300 kilometers range.

The submarine's propulsion machinery consists of a 190 megawatt pressurized water nuclear reactor.

It's claimed to be one of the quietest Russian-built submarines.

According to the Hindustan Times, the sub will be leased to India for 10 years.

Pakistan Navy to pick U214 German Sub?
    Tahir Nazir | Sep 2, 2007, 22:33

Credible reports suggests that Pakistan has chosen to pick U214 German submarines for its next generation submarine requirement. The deal is currently in negotiation, and both sides are working out a deal worth up to billions of dollars to the German company.

The Defence Production Ministry and its technical evaluators seem to have rejected the French Marlin, French Scorpene (ordered by the Indian Navy) for not being able to meet the requirements of the Pakistan Navy.

French have hard vouched to sale the submarine to Pakistan, including connecting with the top officials in the government of Pakistan to sell its submarine. It also agreed to setup other different infrastructures and take part to develop country's economy.

Pakistan in the past have operated the French submarines including the new Agosta-90B, which came with the full transfer of technology in Pakistan.

Pakistan Navy, if decided to purchase U214 German Sub, will manufacture the submarines at the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works.

Not full details of transfer of technology is yet available, however German sources reveal that submarines kits will be sent to Pakistan and will be assembled there, which is being done for almost three other countries.

German U-214 submarines are considered to be the most advanced diesel powered submarines in the world, and probably the most quietest, making it extremely deadly for the enemy.

India to Launch BrahMos From Russian Sub

    By VIVEK RAGHUVANSHI, NEW DELHI

India’s supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, built jointly with Russia, is ready to be launched from a submarine, Defence Minister A.K. Anthony reportedly told the Indian Parliament on Sept. 5.
Currently, the Indian navy’s submarines do not have the capability to launch BrahMos missiles. Sources in the Indian Defence Ministry said the BrahMos will be tested on an unspecified Russian submarine later this year.
Versions of the BrahMos have been developed for the Indian army, navy and air force. The air version will be integrated on IL-38 maritime surveillance aircraft and the SU 30 MKI multirole aircraft. BrahMos has a range of 300 kilometers.
The BrahMos cruise missile has been jointly developed by the BrahMos Corp., a joint venture between India's Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroeyenia.
