    Great Lakes submarine repair

There is a proposal being floated to repair SSNs in Lorain, OH; about 30 miles west of Cleveland. One of the local news stations had a brief story on the proposal. Bartlett Maritime Corporation plans to use a modern design ARDM floating drydock and twin-screw tug to transport the subs from New London. The American Shipbuilding (AmShip) in Lorain closed in 1984; and is now condos and parkland. AmShip had a 1,000 foot long drydock, and was owned by George Steinbrenner.. The last ship I served on USCGC VIGOROUS (WMEC 627) was built at AmShip Lorain.
