    A Submariner's Story by Charles B. Fiedler

A Submariner’s Story… was written with great passion by the author in the last year of his life. As a Submarine Veteran of World War II, who served in The Pacific Theater, he always had stories to tell about The Big One. Here in this, his first and only book, author Charles B. Fiedler captures his recollections of the final 5 patrols aboard the USS Searaven SS-196.

Although the first 15 chapters of this softbound edition are entirely the author’s; the anecdotal accounts are supported by many captioned black & white photos taken onboard the Searaven and further augmented by original drawings by Bud Arrington and Steve Petreshock. The 16th and final chapter is a re-print of the entire diary of the late J. W. McKinney a Sailor on the Searaven’s first 6 patrols. Here in one book are recollections from the entire wartime service of one boat, from beginning to end, from the sailor’s perspective.

Highlights include… Navy Welcome to Boot Camp and then The Pacific, liberty in Hawaii, Gooney Island, a surprise visit from Bob Hope and Les Brown, shipboard life, depth charges, harrowing events while returning to home, boat reunions rare personal photographs and much, much more. Also included, in a self storing pocket inside the front cover of each copy is a colorful Pacific Ocean map so the reader can follow along with the interesting and well told stories.

The author distributed copies to many of our National Naval Libraries and got back some great reviews and thank yous. We especially want to fulfill the author’s wish to get this book out to as many WWII guys as possible. TORPEDO JUNCTION has acquired the remaining copies of A Submariner’s Story… from the Estate of author Charles B. Fiedler.
